Class FAQs
Q1. . Can a student perform the choreography learnt in class at other events (Dance Competitions, Private Parties etc)
A1. A student/(s) may perform the choreography at such events provided:
- He / She has written permission from his/her Instructor
- Also the student is required to acknowledge the instructor and the dance company either verbally or in a written format at the event.
Q2. I have lots of prior dance experience and would like to enroll for the basic 3 class. Is this possible?
A2. If you are a new student and have not taken a basic level one class with us before, then you do not qualify to enroll for the basic 3 class. During your first quarter of Basic One, the instructor will evaluate you and promote you to the appropriate level for you to be challenged for the following quarter.
Q3. My daughter is 3 years old and loves to dance. Can she please enroll in the Bollywood dance program?
A3. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any kids below the age of 5 in the Bollywood dance program. But we have a brand new, exciting program for kids in the 3 to 5 age group called “Bacha Party”. You can enroll your daughter in this program and we guarantee you that she will have a great time!
Q4. I have completed basic level two and my instructor has now suggested that I should enroll in basic three, but the timing of the basic 3 class does not work for me. Can I enroll for the Intermediate level one class?
A4. Our Bolllywood dance program is designed in such a way that each level has specific dance techniques, steps and content that are taught and rehearsed in that level only. When you jump from a basic 2 level to an intermediate level one class, you skip the basic 3 level all together which means you skip learning certain moves, techniques etc that are a pre requisite to enter an intermediate level one class. Hence jumping levels in the program is just not recommended. We would suggest you repeat the basic 2 level for one more quarter and then enroll for the basic 3 class in the following quarter.
Q5. How many levels does your dance company offer at the moment in its bollywood dance program?
A5. We have 4 main categories: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Master and each main category further has sub categories
For example: Basic Level One, Basic Level Two , Basic Level Three
Intermediate Level One, Intermediate Level Two
Advanced Level One, Advanced Level Two
Master Level One, Master Level Two
After a student completes the Master levels, he/she can audition to get into the “Emerging performers” program. If a student is not recommended by the instructor for the “Emerging Performers” Program or does not clear the audition for this Program, the student can continue to take the Master Level classes.
Q6. What is the "Emerging Performers" Program?
A6. The primary objective of this special program is to constantly groom/train a prospective set of young performers who will eventually represent our Professional Dance troupe at various performances in the bay area and across America. The “Emerging Performers” will also train to become our future dance & fitness Instructors. Besides honing the performers’ talent, this program also focuses on team building, self esteem, awareness and creativity of the participants.
Q7. I am a 65 year old woman and I love to dance. Can I enroll for a dance class in your company?
A7. Yes, you are more than welcome to join an Adult basic one class at a location that is suitable for you. Also we have a special Jollywood class for Seniors at the India Community Center in Milpitas. You can email classes@monasampathdance.com for more details on that class.
Q8. I have a problem memorizing steps. Can I record the dance class so I can rehearse at home?
A8. We allow parents to record the last 5 minutes of the class if their child is in the 5-8 age group class. For the adults’ class, we do not allow recording. Initially, it may be challenging to remember the routine, but after the first few weeks of class, this should not be a problem as we go over the routine multiple times in each class. Many of our students also meet outside of class to practice together.
Q9. I would like to take private dance lessons. What are my options?
A9. We do offer private dance lessons. For details about the pricing , packages etc that we offer, please send us an email at classes@monasampath.com
Q10.How different is the Bollywood Cardio class from your regular bollywood dance class?
A10. The Bollywood cardio class is a unique fusion of the fundamentals of Bollywood Dance with low-high impact cardio routines. The program offers a non-stop total body workout that seamlessly takes you through cardio and toning routines. It is based on the principal of interval training where the workout has steep peaks and valleys. Studies have shown that such a workout routine could dramatically improve cardiovascular fitness and raise the body’s potential to burn fat. The highlight of this program is the benefits become evident in a matter of weeks. It is designed as a medium impact class but is easily modifiable to suit everyone. It is a fun class with dance and fitness elements all wrapped into one. The class is well structured and yet allows ample room for creativity.
Q11.My daughter’s wedding is coming up soon and I would like an instructor from your company to come to my house and show our family members some party dance moves and also teach us a choreographed song for the wedding?
A11. This is a request we get very often and we will be happy to help you. Please send us an email at classes@monasampath.com with the date of your event and our programs team will connect with you within 48 hours.
Q12.Do your instructors train students to dance at competitions?
A12. We do not train students to compete. But we do teach them the various dynamics about being on stage and being a performer by showcasing them at our very own Spring and Fall Student Productions ( Q2 and Q4)
Q13.How often do students get to perform?
A13. Our team organizes a very professional and grand student showcase twice a year. All students get to perform at this show. The show takes place twice a year during the spring and fall season and is the culmination of a 8 week intense training, in an on-stage performance in front of a huge audience. The performances are by the students who finish their 8 classes and are ready to perform an entire song they have learnt in that quarter.
Every student, whether five years or fifty-five years of age is provided a professional platform to perform on and taken through the various dynamics of show biz!
From the excitement of costume trials to the rigors of technical rehearsals, the students and our team work together closely to put up the best show at this student showcase! The instructors also work directly with the students to explain to them the importance of backstage discipline and on stage performance skills. The goal of this show is to help students overcome their stage fear, to become complete performers and to experience the thrill of being on a professional stage. In addition to this, students and audience will also be treated to scintillating dance numbers by the principal and junior performers from our Emerging Performers Program.
Q14.Do students learn more than one song through the 8 weeks of the dance class?
A14. We work with either an edited version of one song, or a medley of 2-3 songs throughout the course of the quarter. We use the full eight weeks to work on a routine of steps that utilize many dance styles.
